Naming stadiums can be a bit tricky and sometimes awkward

When the new Premier League season kicks off, the fixtures will be graced by a brand new stadium courtesy of Everton FC which has finally left the “Old Lady” of Goodison Park after 133 years.

The Toffees’ new home at Bramley-Moore Dock on the banks of the River Mersey is called the Hill Dickinson Stadium after the international law firm that holds the naming rights.

There was initially a mixed reaction to the stadium name, some regarding it as bland. But most of the fans are simply happy they have a state-of-the-art stadium which can hold 52,769 spectators, the eighth-largest capacity in England.

Fans are aware that just like any club, Everton needs such sponsorships to help keep them afloat and supporters know it could have been worse. As one fan told the BBC, “at least it's not an airline, fast-food chain or a company owned by an oligarch.” Fans will anyway probably give it their own name with a Merseyside flavour.
