Hong Kong beautician Yuki Wong founded Weirdo Beauty, a skincare clinic that specialises in creating targeted solutions for problem skin, in 2018. Three years later, she launched Odriem, a skincare line that uses plant-based and cruelty-free ingredients in its formulas to treat blemishes as well as soothe and hydrate irritated skin.
We talk to Wong about the origins of her brands and the philosophies behind them.
Why did you start Weirdo Beauty and Odriem?
Having worked with more than 5,000 cases [of various skin ailments] over the past few years [as a beautician], I found that most people aren’t thoroughly educated with accurate skincare concepts— they’ll choose inappropriate products and ingredients that fail to improve their skin concerns.
I’m interested in this field because of my own personal pursuit of beauty. I tried different styles of semi-permanent make-up when I was a student, but the results weren’t satisfactory, so that’s what triggered my curiosity to learn more. I got my eyebrow microblading certification and started a microblading studio in 2018—that’s how I [initially] entered the beauty field.
