Sweetcorn success

SWEETCORN is a treat that is so much better when really fresh. Until you’ve had your own, cooked immediately after picking, you cannot know how good it can be.

Admittedly, sweetcorn is a large plant needing a lot of space, and it has a proportionately large appetite. Native Americans put fish waste under their plants – and it pays to do similar, though manure, or high-phosphate fertiliser, will serve for us instead. Sweetcorn also loves plenty of water, so never skimp on their hydration, to which it’s good to add a liquid feed.
