Dame Prue Leith and her son, Danny Kruger, are on opposite sides of the fence when it comes to the ongoing debate about whether assisted dying should be legalised in the UK.
The Great British Bake Off judge is a patron for Dignity in Dying, an organisation that is campaigning for a change in the law, while Conservative MP Danny worries that assisted dying doesn’t guarantee a death without suffering, and also that some people might choose to end their lives rather than be a burden on their families.
Now, the pair have decided to explore the subject further in a new C4 documentary, Prue & Danny’s Death Road Trip, which sees them visit Canada and Washington State, USA, where assisted dying is legal in certain cases, to meet people whose lives have been affected by the law.
Here, Dame Prue, 82, tells us more…
Why did you want to make this documentary?
This film is about assisted death and whether we should legalise it in Britain. I think we should legalise it for the terminally ill, and in the British Social Attitudes survey [conducted in 2017], 77% of those questioned agreed.
