Just like his smooth strokes in the swimming pool, Sandeep Sejwal plays it cool when it comes to glamour.
MULTIPLE NATIONAL record holder Sandeep Sejwal can’t put it any better when he says the hardest part of setting a new record is to get close to it. National champion in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events, 28-year-old Sejwal joined SPORTS ILLUSTRATED INDIA for the special calendar photoshoot where he opened up about the challenges he has faced on the way to becoming the biggest name in Indian swimming. His best moment came in the 2014 Asian Games where he won a bronze in the 50m breaststroke. Apart from that he won two silver medals in the 2007 Asian Indoor Games in the 50m and 10m breaststroke events.
Sejwal, who hails from Delhi,reckons swimming has gained popularity in the country, thanks to the incredible achievements of athletes like Michael Phelps and thinks that SPORTS ILLUSTRATED INDIA is the perfect medium for taking the sport to the masses. “SPORTS ILLUSTRATED INDIA has done everything right in terms of covering sports other than cricket,” he says. “Cricket has got its own media and it is already widely covered. Covering all the other sports and bringing their stories out so that people get to know about other sports, I think SI has done a very good job and it’s going to grow a lot more if it continues this way.”
