THE number of Covid-19 tests done every day in Chennai has decreased by an average of 3,000, after November 14. From an average of around 10,000 to 11,000 tests done every day since August, the number dropped to around 7,500 from last week.
Health Secretary J Radhakrishan on Tuesday wrote to all districts heads in this connection asking them to ensure that daily tests are not reduced. “Unless testing is increased to pre-festival levels, the State is likely to miss emerging hotspots. The next 14 to 28 days are very important,” Radhakrishnan had said.
However, Corporation Commissioner G Prakash said it is only a temporary phenomenon owing to the festival and tests would be ramped up soon. “The testing numbers would be maintained around 10,000,” he told Express.
