The clash was captured live on television as reporters were being updated about the killing of 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School, Uvalde. The 18-year-old gunman used an AR-15 assault weapon in Tuesday's attack. Mr Abbott cited the gunman's mental health problems as the reason for the shooting.
