OLYMPIC SWIMMER DENIED GOLD 41 YEARS AGO BY GERMAN DRUGS CHEAT

Call to give gold medal to Sharron

OLYMPIC swimmer Sharron Davies may receive a gold medal 41 years late – but she says the drugs cheat who beat her should also keep hers.

Sharron, who finished second to an East German in 1980, has welcomed an investigation into historic doping scandals.

She told Times Radio that it was obvious the country’s female swimmers were on drugs – adding that some of them even had five o’clock shadow.

Petra Schneider won the gold at the Moscow Olympics in the 400m individual medley ahead of 17-year-old Davies.

But she has since admitted that she was part of a systematic East German doping programme which left her with long-term health problems.
