A CRICKET boss has apologised after claiming some ethnic minority youngsters were turning their back on the sport.

Mike O’Farrell sparked fury yesterday when he told MPs the Afro-Caribbean community was more attracted to football and rugby, while Asians prioritised education and viewed sport as “secondary”.

Azeem Rafiq, 30, the former Yorkshire cricketer who blew the whistle on racism in the sport, called the Middlesex club chairman’s comments “painful”.

He tweeted: “This has just confirmed what an endemic problem the game has. I actually can’t believe what I am listening to.”
