Water pollution is becoming a major global concern as a result of rapid population expansion, limited treatment technology, and poor management, particularly in developing nations. Constructed wetlands (CWs) are well-known as a cost-effective and environmentally acceptable ecotechnology for contaminated water rehabilitation, particularly in rural and decentralized populations. Wastewater treatment technologies such as activated sludge, membrane bioreactors, and membrane separation are relatively expensive and not completely viable for wide-scale use in rural areas, and these technologies are limited and insufficient when faced with ever-stricter water and wastewater treatment standards. As a result of its high removal efficiency, decent price, ease of operation, and possibility for water and nutrient reuse, CWs have become a more attractive wastewater treatment option.
