With another film in the theatres, Parvathy T.K. is fighting stereotypes by playing atypical roles.
Three days after a 23-year-old student tested positive for the Nipah virus in Kerala on June 3, Aashiq Abu’s film about the Nipah outbreak—Virus—hit theatres. For Parvathy T.K., her role as a doctor was a revelatory experience. She says she grew more aware of the clinical specialties that exist in the medical profession. The actress feels that by portraying certain characters, she has a chance to see beyond herself and understand what’s happening around her.
“I’ve always enjoyed the pre-production stages of a film more than the production,” says Parvathy, insisting that the joy of acting is in the research. The 31-year-old is also excited that love or to be loved is no longer the motivation of her characters. Released in April, Uyare, for instance, saw Parvathy play an acid attack survivor who is unwilling to cede her ambition.
