Could these be the best of times for Nicole Kidman? The Australian star is as active and relevant as ever, and shows no signs of slowing down – or ageing, for that matter. At 52, she’s radiant, elegant, and delivering some of the finest performances of her career. The second season of the smash-hit HBO drama Big Little Lies completed streaming this summer, with the first instalment earning Nicole Emmy and Golden Globe awards for best actress. Now she’s being thrust back into the spotlight in the upcoming film Bombshell, in which she plays news anchor Gretchen Carlson, who brought down the CEO of Fox News under accusations of sexual harassment.
Nicole lives in Nashville with her husband, singer Keith Urban, and their daughters Sunday Rose and Faith. She also has two grown-up kids from her first marriage, to Tom Cruise.
Meryl Streep convinced me to do Bombshell.
Just to name-drop there. I was in the middle of shooting the second season of Big Little Lies and I was... tired. But projects like Bombshell don’t come up very often, and I’d been wanting to work with Charlize [Theron] for about 10 years. So I spoke to Meryl about it and she said, “Absolutely, you should [do it], because you need to be part of something that marks a time in history.” I thought, “Yes, you’re so right.” And no one argues with Meryl Streep.
I’m not interested in a preachy film – I want to get there emotionally.
