When I go to hargurl’s* flat for a sunset G&T, I ask to use her bathroom immediately. If she senses my anxiety, she is sensitive enough not to comment. Along with a baby pink bottle of Dettol liquid soap by the sink, I catch a glimpse of other personal belongings: An exhausted tube of Aesop toothpaste squeezed through the middle, a single expensive earring with a missing back, a long-finished bottle of Kama Ayurveda rose water turned over, and a tiny, tube of retinol eye cream that looks like it was opened yesterday. There’s also some hidden stuff: CBD oil, and a few straight-up medical tubes that sound like they are for rosacea.
