It’s in Eld Lane above the shop Just Essentials. The difference is that everything is dairy-free and plant-based. The menu is modest to match the size of the dining area, but the welcome was much bigger. The interior is black and red and full of nods to the 1950s, with retro red vinyl seating and a black and white tiled floor.
They have a huge range of shakes, 28 flavors in total, and all made from dairy-free ice cream and topped with dairy-free cream. We began our lunch with an American cheesecake flavor shake – I chose Key Lime Pie. Served in traditional tall glasses with metal straws (the diner is also plastic-free), they were thick and tasted rather creamy and absolutely gorgeous. If it had been a blind tasting, I defy anyone to tell the difference. If anything I think mine was one of the best shakes I’ve ever tasted.
