When Jean-Claude Ellena created the first entry to the Hermès Jardin line in 2003 — Un Jardin En Mediterranee (French for a Mediterranean garden) — he was not necessarily thinking about its commercial success or its ability to provide fertile ground for flankers or new forms. He simply wanted to create a fragrance that pleasured him in the process of making it and to do so within the House decorator Leïla Menchari’s garden.
