Jewellery house Chaumet has its history inextricably intertwined with a legendary love story — that of former French leader Napoleon Bonaparte and his consort Empress Josephine. The narrative of their lives and the romantic milestones they marked in their relationship would not have been as beautifully recorded if it had not been for Chaumet’s founder Marie-Étienne Nitot. Nitot had the privilege of commemorating pivotal historic occasions with his magnificent creations for the couple, as well as for them individually — and these included Napoleon’s coronation sword and Josephine’s crowns.
