It has been said that a Rolex is timeless, especially when it comes to the Oyster Perpetual family of watches. This range has long been synonymous with form and function. Classic, dependable and traditional are some of the words associated with these watches. The new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36, however, is about to shake up this notion.
In a move that has seen the horological world go into something of a tizzy, the Swiss Manufacture has brought the most unexpected creative twist to one of its iconic models, releasing an iteration of its Day-Date 36 that displays neither the day nor the date, but instead puts the focus on emotion, mood and the brightest of colours.
An Expression of Creativity
Endearingly termed by Rolex as "time stamped with emotion", this particular Day-Date 36 is a watch which syncs time reading with your changing mood.
Just imagine glancing at your watch and seeing an uplifting emoji. A perfunctory action that is purposeful now becomes joyful.
As with what we have come to expect from a Day-Date, there is an arcshaped aperture at 12 o'clock on the dial. Rather than showing the day of the week, it displays an inspirational keyword in English, like "Happy", "Eternity", "Gratitude", "Peace", "Faith", "Love" and "Hope". Similarly, the function of the window at 3 o'clock has changed. What once displayed the date now reveals daily one of 31 exclusive emojis that include a four-leaf clover, a heart and a peace sign.
