SPRUCE IT UP
WE’VE all been spending more time at home lately. And you might’ve found that when you’re looking at the same objects day in and day out, things start to “get old”.

The beginning of the new year is the perfect time to give your home a bit of a facelift so you can head into 2022 feeling good about your space.

Here are some fast and easy ways to revamp your home without breaking the bank.

SPRAY DAY

Summer is a good time to give the outside of your home a pressure wash.

It’s a great way to clean the entire outside of your house, from the roof and walls to the garage door and gutters.

There’s no need to buy a high-pressure cleaner – simply hire one instead. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make.

BRING THE OUTSIDE IN

Plants instantly liven up a space, so bring greenery indoors in places that get plenty of natural light. Empty spot in the corner of a room? A bigger plant can fill it nicely and add a sense of tranquillity and calm.

Place potted plants on your coffee table for an attractive centrepiece, brighten up your bookshelf with a pop of green, or grow herbs on your kitchen windowsill.

Large tropical plants and succulents are all the rage among homeowners and interior designers because they’re low maintenance and easy to grow. Others, such as peace lilies (Spathiphyllum) or English ivy (Hedera helix), prettify your home while purifying the air around you. Ask at your local nursery for advice on plants that do well indoors.

To save on cost, Cape Town-based horticulturist Tracy English suggests you exchange plants with neighbours, friends, family or join a social media plant-swop group.
