She usually maintains a dignified silence when it comes to her personal views on matters of politics. But the Queen was overheard expressing her irritation at world leaders after opening the Welsh parliament – known as the Senedd – in Cardiff on Thursday.
Speaking ahead of the COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow later this month, the Queen was reported to have said, “Extraordinary isn’t it… still don’t know who is coming… no idea. We only know about people who are not coming… It’s really irritating when they talk, but they don’t do.”
The Queen’s concern comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson was warned China’s President Xi Jinping would not be attending in person – prompting concerns that China could refuse to set new climate change goals amid the ongoing crisis.
