Jaipur-based Trunks Company is carving a new niche in homegrown luxury—high-end, handmade travel and home accessories that can serve as storage for your finest cognac and jewellery, or as a swanky suitcase or poker set
Tucked away in a corner of Jaipur, Trunks Company’s atelier is a stellar example of a niche homegrown luxury brand with a strong commitment to craftsmanship. First-generation entrepreneurs Paritosh and Priyank Mehta have created Trunks Company, which has India’s ultra-HNIs vying for an appointment to commission anything from cognac cases to jewellery trunks. Their customised trunks are hand-crafted with wood, imported Italian leather, soft lambskin, suede sourced from Chennai and metal elements from France.
For most people in the luxury business, legacy French brands such as Louis Vuitton and Goyard have been the standard reference point for trunks; but the Mehta brothers are changing the way we think.
What made you decide to make luxury trunks?
Priyank: We were never industry-driven and never looked at the market and said “let’s feed it with trunks.” It really stemmed from our love for Indian crafts, a fascination for trunks, coupled with passion and a bit of madness. I thought to myself, nobody in India makes trunks. Plus, there’s a challenge of doing it in Jaipur.
