This issue will focus on the blue economy, explore complex connections and interdependencies, and call for a united front to seek solutions for both economic and environmental sustainability. We will also celebrate 30 years of ADEX, a veritable platform for gathering all ocean lovers who will stand together to seek best practices, and promote awareness and education for the protection of our most valuable resource.

I’ve hardly dived in this part of the world, so putting this edition together was very exciting. The Bay of Bengal, the Arabian and Andaman Seas, and the seas off the eastern coast of Africa hold their own underwater treasures and secrets waiting to be discovered. The (underwater) world truly is a diver’s oyster, and I hope to be logging more dives till I’m old and grey. Let this edition be your portal and appetiser

of the magazine, we pay tribute to some of the most amazing dive destinations around

Embarking on a new decade, 2020 has presented many uncertainties and a multitude of challenges. For the 26th edition of Asia Dive Expo (ADEX), we were excited to return to the theme of a “Plastic-Free Ocean” for a second time to consider a range of new issues that have come to the fore since the marine plastic problem was first addressed at last year’s showr . Our 2019 issue of The Big Blue Book focuses on the perils of plastic pollution on the very source of life – the ocean. We look into the creation of plastic, its long life span and durability and opinions from prominent scientists on how plastics affect marine species – for example how microplastics affect coral reefs. We also look into the solutions that can prevent further plastic pollution of our oceans so that marine species can be protected.

In order to witness the beauty of Nature’s tiniest marine creatures in their hidden habitats, we’ve combed through the different layers that are found in the muck in this issue of Asian Diver.
