Banyuasin (TROBOSAQUA.COM). Palm oil cake, also known as palm carnel meal (PKM) is a by-product of making palm oil that has the potential to become a raw material for fish feed.
The Directorate General of Aquaculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) developed catfish feed made from PKM which is available throughout the year in South Sumatra province through the "Supporting Local Feed Self-Sufficiency for Inland Aquaculture Development in Indonesia" project.
Coinciding with World Food Day (World Food Day), Wednesday (10/16), KKP conducted the first harvest of independent fish food pilot ponds in the Jarwo Fish Cultivator Group (Pokdakan) in Sungai Regit village, Talang Kelapa district, Banyuasin district, South Sumatra.

In his statement in Jakarta, the Director General of KKP Aquaculture, Slamet Soebjakto, deeply appreciated this independent feed project. "If the palm carnel meal or abbreviated as PKM has been successfully developed, we can reduce the use of fish meal which so far most of the needs are still imported. Moreover, Indonesia is the second largest PKM producer after Malaysia, "said Slamet.
