CUESTIÓN DE CASTA / A QUESTION OF BREEDING
Nietzsche called man an indeterminate being. While the animal fights for survival in this world, man seeks to transcend it. The delicate interweaving that human urges are made of shelters a large part of our instinctive impulses. We usually resort to our animalistic nature –undeniable, if little-explored– when seeking exoneration for the outbursts of our innate primitivism that demands immediate satisfaction. But man should most enjoy the daily battle, the daily struggle, rather than the end of the fray, the closing of things, for this is where supremacy resides. We should live through art, not from it. We should live emotions, not explain them. Do not argue actions, develop them; and most of all, conclude them. But with no greater desire than to feed the spirit and strengthen your resolve.
I turn to the metaphorical power of the wonderful and elusive rhinoceros; a ‘beautiful’ incarnation of rarity, or duration, of melancholy exile and enigmatic field around its existence throughout time. A fabulous and emblematic icon, the stuff of legends and an animal of worship for its unique extravagance and solitary wanderings, it is the statement of the hegemony of the genuine over the corrupt: abjection shall succumb to the weight of integrity and pedigree.
