The momentous events that occurred in the month of March in 1971 hold great significance for every Bangladeshi. March 26 is the day we declared our independence from West Pakistan and began our Liberation War against tyranny and injustice, emerging nine months later as the victorious and independent nation of Bangladesh on December 16 _ at the cost of three million martyred lives.
The 26th of March is our Jatiyo Dibosh, or National Day, a national holiday celebrated with immense jubilation and pride throughout the country. On the eve of celebrating 49 years of our independence.
