Whip up a high-protein meal in minutes with these simple air-fryer recipes from TikTok sensation

- Christina Kynigos

FULL ON FLAVOUR

If there's one thing that air fryers do well, it's cutting the time it takes to create a flavoursome meal. Convenient and speedy, air fryers use significantly less oil than other methods such as frying, and are therefore considered to be a good option for healthy meal-making. Enter Christina Kynigos' new cookbook 20-Minute Air Fryer: Easy High-Protein Meals Under 600 Calories (DK RED, £20), which offers up stress-free lunches, prep-ahead meals, satisfying fakeaways and more, all with Christina's (known as @veryhungrygreek to over 1.5 million followers across TikTok and Instagram) trademark bold flavours. Even if you don't have an air fryer, these meals can be cooked using conventional cooking methods. Here are a few recipes from Christina for you to try.

Sticky paprika halloumi gyros

Being Greek-Cypriot, we have gyros at home very, very regularly. As I've shared gyros recipes in my other cookbooks, here's a twist for you: sticky paprika-flavoured grilled halloumi, stuffed inside a pitta with fries and salad.

Prep: 5 mins Cook: 8 mins Serves: 4

Ingredients

160g shop-bought skin-on fries 25g honey Squeeze of lemon juice 420g low-fat halloumi, sliced Spray of oil 2 tsp paprika 4 pitta breads or flatbreads 2 tomatoes, sliced 20g red onion, sliced

For the tzatziki

150g cucumber, grated 200g fat-free Greek yogurt Juice of ½ lemon 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 tsp olive oil Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method

1. Cook the skin-on fries according to the packet instructions. Meanwhile, prepare the tzatziki. Squeeze the grated cucumber to remove excess liquid, then add to the remaining tzatziki ingredients. Mix and set aside in the fridge.

2. In another bowl, combine the honey and lemon. Set aside.
