When Sue starts a job in her hometown bakery, she never expects her old flame to be there or to find a second chance at love
Marcella Robinson
Love at first bite

Sue loved retirement. She'd moved back to the small town where she'd grown up, taking in all her local favorites, including her evening stroll through the library. Yet months into her move, she felt that itch: She needed more, to fill her time and lonely days.

And that's why, one Monday morning, Sue stood beside the counter in Flowers Bakery, waiting for Bethany

Tyler, the owner. As a kid, Sue had come here every Sunday with her parents for her cinnamon rolls. Then as a teen, she got her first job working behind the counter. The inside had since seen improvements, but it still smelled like baked bread and cinnamon-the scent of home.

Movement down the hall caught Sue's attention and her breath.

"Here for the cookies?" called a gruff voice that instantly put her every nerve on edge. "I expected you at the back door," the man said, angling his head as he took her in.

Weight drops, mood soars

A big reason many of us want to lose weight is simply to feel better-happier, healthier, more at ease, more energized. Now there's evidence a twist on lowcarb eating not only speeds off fat, \"it can lead to remarkable mood improvements,\" says Georgia Ede, M.D., Harvard-trained author of Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind. Consider this: When scientists recently put seniors on a low-carb plan enhanced with nuts, they lost 14.8 times more weight and saw spirits soar 6.89 times higher than traditional low-cal dieters. As a bonus, \"when well-being increases that much, sustaining healthy changes becomes easier long-term,\" notes Dr. Ede. Colorado grandmother Ashley Malik is living proof. Four years after dropping five sizes and reversing prediabetes, Ashley's still lean and flying high. Read on for her inspiring story and to learn how to get your own waist-shrinking, joy-boosting results.

Sail through summer free of UTIs

As we age, the risk of a urinary tract infection (UTI) increases due to weaker pelvic floor muscles and hormonal changes that allow bacteria to build in the urinary tract. And hotter summer temps up the odds of dehydration, which can prevent the bladder from flushing bacteria. Here's how to keep UTIs at bay
