Gentle relief from constipation
Woman's World|June 05, 2023
We love summer getaways...except for the part when we come home and are still constipated. While laxatives seem like a quick fix, they can interfere with nutrient absorption and can lead to dependence on the meds to have bowel movements, says Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D. To the rescue: these gentle remedies

Gentle relief from constipation

Best topical: Castor oil wrap

“Castor oil packs relieve constipation by relaxing the intestines, plus they lubricate and soften tight muscles,” says Dr. Gittleman. Soak folded wool flannel in pure, cold-pressed castor oil and heat it in a baking dish in the oven until comfortably warm. Rub 3 Tbs. of castor oil on your abdomen, place the flannel on top, then cover with plastic wrap. Top with a heating pad for up to 1 hour.

Best food: Prunes
