In a study of people with hard-to-treat high blood pressure, a Harvard method called the “relaxation response” was so effective, some people reduced or eliminated the need for antihypertensive meds in eight weeks. It calms the body’s “fight or flight” response and relaxes arteries. To do: Relax your muscles and mentally repeat a calming word or phrase, such as “one,” each time you exhale for 10 minutes twice daily.
