Nancy's Kairali Massage Parlour A Cultural Tapestry

Set primarily in four different continents, Nancy unfolds her entire life story to her massage client, Paul.

From the familiar landscapes of Kerala to the prosperous Denmark, Nancy's life forced her to keep moving to new places with new experiences. Archana Painuly brings forward the diasporic theme, constantly referring to the nostalgia felt towards one's home country and culture, at the same time being open to new cultures. The rich narrative focuses on how, despite cultural and geographical differences, the essence of human nature remains constant. It is very evident as Nancy recounts stories of her family, her three ex-husbands and their vices, the love for her sons as well as the constant hardships life put her through. While she dealt with many losses, she also encountered female friendships that acted as a guiding light, people who became family, and supportive friends, who encouraged her to keep going on. Life can be full of struggles but Nancy remains hopeful, having gained many valuable lessons. Archana gives Nancy a complex psyche; even the character Paul gets to narrate his side of the story which is an refreshing shift in perspective.
