Windsor Castle The Queen

The oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, Windsor Castle - which has 1,000 rooms, 13 acres of land and over 300 fireplaces - allows the Queen to mix business and pleasure. Conveniently located a stone's throw from several other royal residences, Windsor is the place where Prince Philip spent his final days, so it undoubtedly has a special place in Her Majesty's heart. One expert said, 'Windsor is the place she loves... She has her memories with Prince Philip there, she has her ponies there and family nearby.'

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall

Surrounded by the rolling Gloucestershire hills, the Prince of Wales' country retreat, Highgrove House, was purchased by The Duchy of Cornwall in 1980 and is now used as the Cornwalls' family residence. The nine-bedroom mansion is modest in comparison to other royal abodes, but it's the gardens and 900 acres of organic land - including a farm which Prince Charles installed - that prove to be the showstopper of this property.
