I whizzed up to the Hokianga for the Matariki long and weekend. I hadn't been up for ages and the family said they could do without me, so I left after I'd finished my radio programme early on Thursday afternoon.
It was utter bliss as I knew it would be, and I was thoroughly spoiled by my friends Wendyl and Paul, who live up there.
Wendyl turned up on Thursday night with everything we needed for a brilliant steak and chips meal. She cooked it on my stove - all handmade and the steak came from a beautiful cow I'd had the pleasure of meeting some months ago when she was the sum of her parts. Utterly delicious and we had a wonderful catch-up over numerous glasses of wine.
