'Let them be normal kids!'

The King doesn’t wish his childhood on his favourite royal rascals
'Let them be normal kids!'

He knows only too well what it's like H to be born into the privilege of royalty, and the responsibilities and restrictions that come with it. Which is why the King wants his grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, to grow up as normal as possible so they avoid making errors he made, according to a royal expert.

In TV documentary The Fab Five: The King's Grandchildren, professor of modern history Chandrika Kaul says the newly crowned Monarch wants nothing more than for George, nine, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five, to have the confidence to go after what they want.

Chandrika says, "I think King Charles is very keen that his grandchildren don't make the mistakes that I think he feels he made, particularly when it came to matters of the heart." His marriage to Princess Diana ended in divorce after both were unfaithful. Charles went on to marry Camilla Parker Bowles, with whom he'd been in love with since his twenties.

The King, 74 - also grandad to Harry and Meghan's children Archie, four, and Lilibet, 23 months - does not want history to repeat itself because his grandkids feel they have to meet certain obligations, she says.

"What I think he wants to do is try to help these young grandchildren grow up in as normal a way as possible and create more fully rounded human beings who are unafraid of their emotions, and who are able to have the confidence to marry whom they want. And to have a happy, successful and fulfilled personal life."
