Christmas really is the most wonderful time for Sophie Tristram after her friend agreed to be a Surrogate and carry a baby for her

As she cuddles her baby boy Harry this Christmas, Sophie Tristram beams proudly just like any new mum. But for Sophie, the smile is all the wider knowing that baby Harry's arrival was entirely against the odds.

Having been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was six months old, Sophie always knew the path to motherhood would not be straightforward. But when doctors discovered a rare bacterium in her lungs and delivered the devastating news that pregnancy could prove fatal, she thought her dreams of becoming a mum were over.

Shocked Sophie needed counselling to come to terms with the news, but then her friend Emma stepped in with a suggestion that was to change both their lives - offering to act as a surrogate and carry the baby for her.

And with baby Harry's birthday just a few weeks before Christmas, it makes the festive season all the more wonderful for Sophie and husband Ben.

Sophie (31) smiles, "Harry is the best Christmas present I could ever have wished for we don't need any other gifts.

"Christmas is always a magical time of the year but sharing it with Harry makes it even more special and exciting. He's transformed our lives like you wouldn't believe, and I just couldn't imagine life without him.
