HERITAGE TOURISM IN INDIA
Travellers' World|February - March 2023
The rich heritage of India, one of the world's oldest civilizations, is an all-embracing confluence of religions, traditions and customs. The highlights of Indian heritage lie in the treasure of its art, architecture, classical dance, music, flora and fauna, and the innate secular philosophy of its people. A visit to the heritage sites is like a walk through history, changing lanes with every dynasty that ruled Indian soil. The finesse of Indian handiwork, the richness of silk and cotton textiles, the ethnicity of jewellery, everything has come down as a heritage from ancient times and is being kept alive generation after generation. Even food in India is a legacy and part of Indian heritage, differing in look and taste in every state of India.
HERITAGE TOURISM IN INDIA

The idea of India is almost synonymous with the word Heritage”. When Cambridge referred to the word Heritage’ with the features belonging to the culture of a particular society, such as traditions, languages, or buildings created in the past with perpetual historical importance, one cannot but relate to the rich heritage of one of the world's oldest civilizations.

India with its diverse culture and dynamic history has the mark of its unique heritage in its multidimensional culture, language, religion, architecture, music and even in flora and fauna. Indian food with all of its diversity, taste, recipe and presentation is a heritage in its own right.

Taj Mahal, Agra

If we could embark on a short trip down the heritage maps of India, the first thing that comes to mind is none other than the Taj Mahal. One of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal is a marble marvel built on the banks of the river Yamuna. It's difficult to say which is more exciting the architectural genius of the structure or the stories behind it. The symbol of eternal love the monument is indeed a wonder and a must-visit experience to gather.

Each aspect of the heritage of Incredible India is a subject of universal interest for travellers, scholars, historians, filmmakers, writers and archaeologists from around the world for decades.
