And still Shane Jenek’s message sparkles. “If I could advocate for anything it would be empathy, especially for the disempowered,” says the performer who burst onto the scene as if by glitter bomb in 2003 appearing on Australian Idol as drag queen Courtney Act. “Empathy is knowing you can’t change your own lens; it’s saying ‘I don’t understand your lived experience but I believe what you’re telling me.’ The world would be better with more of it.”
