The previous months were unusual for the test and measurement sector and specifically for audio and acoustics testing. With the effects of the global pandemic subsiding, the return of traveling and getting back to the production floors, test and measurement manufacturers are busier than ever in the field. Except, access to factories in China for visitors from other countries is not yet fully available, which continues to push the trend for remote access and supervision, with test equipment required to be connected and sharing data on the cloud. Something that audio test and measurement manufacturers are working on but have not yet fully implemented.
Still, as a result of the additional time for R&D activities available through the pandemic, the results of intensive work on the software front are now clearly visible, with many new features and frequent major updates, while hardware remained on hold given that it requires a more collaborative effort that was not completely available during the pandemic. But more important, the effects of the supply chain disruptions continue to be felt, causing the postponement and delays of product launches sometimes even products that had been announced and pre-orders accepted.
Available or Not
A great example of the ruthless supply chain challenges felt across the industry are perfectly illustrated by QuantAsylum, which was forced to discontinue previous designs due to key components no longer being available, including AD/DAs from AKM. Since 2012, the company founded by Matt Taylor has been providing audio test and measurement solutions to companies around the world, and with each iteration, the capability and programmability of its audio analyzers continued to grow.
