The Callisto Protocol
Stuff UK|February 2023
It’s a scrappy, gory return to sci-fi survival horror but beyond frightening photorealistic visuals and creepy immersive audio, is there anything here genre fans haven't seen before?
Alan Wen
The Callisto Protocol

The shadow of sci-fi Tsurvival horror classic Dead Space looms heavily over developer Striking Distance's debut effort but The Callisto Protocol sure does its damnedest to step out swinging. It bucks the trend for psychological horror, where your character can only run helplessly away from danger, in favour of facing those nightmares in the shadows head-on though a lean, mean, 10hr campaign.

The poor sap you're controlling is Jacob Lee, a space cargo pilot sent to an off-world prison colony in a 'wrong place, wrong time' scenario. But before you've even had time to settle in, the prison is overrun by an alien virus. Workers and prisoners alike are transformed into monstrous biophages, and the race is on to escape with your innards... well, in.
