Doom. What the hell can anyone say about this game that hasn’t already been said many times before? The granddaddy of the FPS genre and one of the greatest games in the history of its industry, the only thing I can add is if you’ve never played the original, get yourself a copy and imagine how games like Call of Duty could exist without it.
As a big fan of the first three games in the series, the franchise lost me with its recent incarnations. Its old-school exploration-based demon-shredding shifted to a less involving arena style of gameplay. Fortunately, it’s a style of play that suits this rogue-lite mobile reimagining. The smaller play area with the core gameplay focusing on sending a set number of hellspawn, err back to hell works well.
