THE craze has been for young, up-and-coming managers of late, but the return of Paul Hurst and Steve Cotterill shows EFL clubs still value experience when the going gets tough.
Hurst returns for a second spell at Shrewsbury following the departure of Matt Taylor. Salop called time on the 42-year-old former Walsall boss last Sunday after a run of six defeats in their last seven League One games saw them slide down the table.
The Shrews’ plight worsened in midweek as relegation rivals Exeter and Reading both won. It meant they slipped to 20th in the table, four points above the relegation zone.
They will be hoping that Hurst can turn the tide on his return. The 49-year-old led Grimsby back into the Football League in 2016 before joining third tier Shrewsbury later that year.
