BRATHWAITE-CHANDERPAUL SHATTER WEST INDIES’ OPENING RECORD IN THE TESTS West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul created a new West Indies record for the opening partnership in Test cricket in the first Test against Zimbabwe in Harare. On Day 3 of the Test (February 6), Brathwaite and Chanderpaul completed their 336-run partnership. West Indies skipper Brathwaite scored 182 while Chanderpaul, son of West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul, was unbeaten on 207 - his maiden Test hundred. The record stand ended broken when Brathwaite was trapped leg before by left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza. The previous record for West Indies’ best Test opening stand was 298 by Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes against England at St John’s in 1990.
