GUILTY GEARS

A NEW BIKE OWNER SHARES HIS TALE OF SHAME.
GUILTY GEARS

MEET TWEETY, my bright yellow 1999 Specialized FSR Comp. She's hardly as she left the factory, twoplus decades ago; rather, she now favours a mullet set-up and some modern quality-oflife upgrades, including a hydraulic front brake rotor to complement the rubber blocks at the back. But despite her age and retro appearance, Tweety and I have no problem staying at the sharp end of the pack when we frequent the likes of the Tygerberg trails, Tokai and Stellenbosch.

Still, I've been 'electric-curious' for a while now; so when the opportunity arose to get myself something with a motor, well, I just couldn't resist another day. Enter (silently) stage left, my new Merida eOne Forty: a military-green whiz-kid mullet with three modes – all of them cheating.

DOUBLE THE GUILT
