What’s special about Thomasina Bateman? A protective talisman, perhaps? An alien embryo shot into her brain? She doesn’t have nightmares, at least not at the start of the game. Perhaps she’s a v… no, let’s not go there, though she’s not a police officer either. Whatever it is, it’s brought her to a town in England which, on the surface, appears normal, the residents going about their rural business.

Thomasina is a modern Victorian antiquarian, summoned to the village of Bewlay by a letter from one Leonard Shoulder, who readers of last month’s preview will be relieved to hear has been found. Hob’s Barrow has been excavated too, giving up its secrets at the point of a trowel. And what has she discovered?
