• The first ever aircraft carrier to be indigenously designed and constructed, INS Vikrant will strengthen the nation's standing as a Blue Water Navy- a maritime force with global reach and capability to operate over deep seas.
• Designed by the Indian Navy's in-house Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), the 262.5 metres long and 61.6 metres wide Vikrant displaces 43,000 tonnes approximately, having a maximum designed speed of 28 Knots with an endurance of 7,500 nautical miles.
• The Sanskrit word Vikrant, which means 'courageous' or 'stepping beyond', appears in various Hindu scriptures including the first chapter of the pious Bhagavad Gita.
• The new Vikrant will carry the motto of its predecessor, Jayema sam yudhi sprudhah, an expression that appears in the holy Rig Veda, which means: "We conquer those who fight us in war".
