Sibal exits, Cong avoids bitterness

Taunted By Sibal Earlier, BJP's Jitin Prasada Now Hits Back

New Delhi: Congress and Kapil Sibal appeared to avoid bitterness in the wake of their falling out, with the senior lawyer eschewing harsh words against his party of three decades and Congress too making light of his exit, shorn of aggression that is reserved for defectors. Filing his nomination as RS candidate with the support of SP in Lucknow, Sibal announced that he resigned from Congress on May 16.

AICC general secretary in charge of organisation, KC Venugopal, said, "He had already written a letter to the party chief. The letter says that he firmly believes in the values of Congress. He said nothing else. The resignation letter is of a very high standard. People come and go from our party. This is a big party. Some may be leaving the party and maybe going to other parties. I am not going to blame anybody who left the party. Congress has a vast space."

Meanwhile, the development led to a duel of defectors Sibal vs former Congress leader Jitin Prasada who quit the party to become a minister in the BJP government in UP.
