A Right to Information Act reply from GHMC commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar revealed that various central departments’ arrears stand at ̀ 281 crore, with South Central Railway emerging as the biggest defaulter of property tax for nine years. The SCR owes ₹172 crore, while the BSNL is the top defaulter among the PSUs. Central PSUs collectively owe around ̀ 89 crore to the civic body. Salarjung Museum (SJM) and Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) are among the other defaulters.
The RTI was filed by Forum for Good Governance secretary M Padmanabha Reddy, seeking details of the defaulters.
