Fans of Manchester United and Newcastle United are rubbing their hands in glee as both clubs look to end a long wait for a trophy when they face off in the League Cup final, but their supporters in Singapore will not be able to catch the Feb 26 match live on a local telco.
Both StarHub and Singtel have confirmed with The Straits Times that they will not be broadcasting the game live.
A StarHub spokesman said that while it has obtained English Premier League broadcast rights for six seasons through to the 2027/28 edition, the telco does not have the rights for the League Cup this season.
Similarly, a Singtel spokesman said it will not be screening the League Cup final "given the limited appeal compared to more popular football competitions like the Uefa Champions League and English FA Cup".
In their responses, both companies directed fans to their other sports offerings.
