Students from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) are floating an idea called Seaform to help the nation achieve its food security goals.
Seaform – a floating, self-sustaining farm that aims to tackle rising sea levels and land scarcity – takes water from the sea before purifying it for crops like lettuce.
It is among a raft of inventions from SUTD students to address Singapore’s challenges. The inventions were showcased in an exhibition at the Changi campus last Friday.
Seaform is powered by wind and solar energy, said one of its designers, fourth-year information systems technology and design student Clement Vimal Ravindran, 24.
