'Documentation of all of Satyajit Ray's works extremely essential'

The 95th edition of the Academy Awards is knocking on the doors in Los Angeles.

Filmmaker Sandip Ray sits at his Bishop Lefroy Road house reminiscing about his more-than-three-decades-old memory of his father Satyajit Ray being presented the Honorary Oscar at the 64th Academy Awards.

Although the auteur couldn’t be present in person at the ceremony, a video message by Ray was shown at the Dolby theatre. “I have learnt everything about the craft of cinema from the making of American films,” Ray had said. Announcing the award, actor Audrey Hepburn had described his work as a “rare mastery of the art of motion pictures and his profound humanism which has had an indelible influence on filmmakers and audiences throughout the world.”
