CHIEF Minister MK Stalin on Thursday hailed as historic the Supreme Court verdict upholding the conduct of Jallikattu, the traditional sport of the Tamils.
Stating that the apex court has upheld the legislation enacted by the state government, the Chief Minister said a big ground is being readied for Jallikattu in Alanganallur. "In the upcoming Pongal festival in January, let us celebrate the Jallikattu."
In New Delhi, just after the apex court pronounced its verdict, Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Regupathy said there was no instance in the recent past where all judges in the Constitution Bench of the SC giving a unanimous verdict in a case. "But today, all the five judges on the bench gave their verdict unanimously. The Tamil Nadu government has engaged the best lawyers in this case and put forth the arguments effectively," he added.
The minister also said no cruelty was inflicted on the bulls engaged in Jallikattu and the state government has been ensuring the safety of the bulls.
