NEARLY a month after Joshimath was struck by a sudden sinking of land, damaging over 800 houses and commercial establishments, the Uttarakhand government has proposed three options for rehabilitation and displacement of the affected people. However, the residents of the hill town have expressed unhappiness over the proposal.
The state government has prepared a plan to offer the choice of a one-time settlement as compensation for the damage suffered by the land and buildings, as well as opting for a house and land instead of land.
